OCTOBER 3 - 10 2026
UTBDR ( Utah )
The Utah Backcountry Discovery Route (UTBDR) stretches approximately 900 miles, weaving a south-to-north journey through Utah’s most breathtaking and varied terrain. It begins near Mexican Hat—just south of Monument Valley and winds into the Idaho border at Bear Lake. With a little variables along the way. Our total estimated covered distance will be 1450 miles from arrival to departure.
What Makes It Epic
-
Landscape variety: Riders traverse red desert washes, dramatic canyons, pine forests, and alpine highlands above 10,000 ft. You'll navigate the iconic Valley of the Gods, Moki Dugway, Nine Mile Canyon, the San Rafael Swell, Abajo and La Sal mountains, and finally the Wasatch Range.
-
Technical challenge: Expect a mix of gravel, sand, rocky steps, clay, mud, and occasional snow. Certain sections—Longhorn Basin or La Sal Pass— demand advanced off-road skills. We adapt our tracks to the group's skill level. Safety is always a priority.
Timing & Preparation
-
Most riders complete the route in 5–7 days, averaging roughly 150 mi/day.
-
Fuel stops can be sparse; the longest stretch between pumps is up to 165 miles sometimes a little more.
-
Water is critical: due to arid conditions, carry at least a gallon per day—and ideally more.
Variable Conditions
-
Weather and seasons significantly affect rideability. Clay tracks harden when dry but turn slippery when wet; snow and mud can block high passes long into spring.
Rider Perspectives
-
Riders describe the UTBDR as a “little Dual-Sport Heaven,” a route balancing remote wilderness with accessible towns.
-
Expect unpredictable terrain and wildlife encounter.
-
Mud-laden, high-altitude sections—like Reservation Ridge at 9,000+ ft—can halt riders during rainfall until conditions dry up. We will assess and decide if we play it safe and go by way.... Safty is always a priority.
Summary
The UTBDR is a bucket-list adventure for dual-sport and adventure motorcyclists—a journey through Utah’s iconic backcountry that challenges riders physically and navigationally. With an anticipated ride time of a week and careful planning around fuel, water, and weather, this route offers an unforgettable blend of natural grandeur, technical riding, and cultural discovery. Whether you're conquering deep red sands, high mountain passes, or canyon paths, the UTBDR delivers one of North America’s most iconic dual-sport experiences—far beyond the ordinary.
